Individual, Family, Couples, and Group Therapy

We use different Psychotherapy modalities- Psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive, Solution Focus Therapy, Single session (one time 2 hours consultation).  For Trauma we used cognitive/behavior and mindfulness approaches such as Prolonged Exposure (PE), Trauma Practice and Polyvagal Practice Theory.

PE therapy is an evidence based Therapy which has been proven to be one of the most effective Therapy for Trauma. PE has been used successfully with sexual/physical abuse victims, veterans,  police/emergency staff and accident survivors.  Combination of these approaches helps clients better fulfill emotional needs; it also facilitates the resolution of emotional issues such as lack of confidence and self esteem, negative beliefs, & helplessness as well as a wide range of problems at work, school, relationships or interpersonal problems, adjustment to a new culture and behavioral problems.

Psychotherapy will also address emotional problems such as anxiety, depression, anger, hopelessness, despair and stress.  Clients will learn how to cope and better manage their emotions.

Family/ Couples Therapy-We use Structural Family Therapy and Emotionally focused Therapy (Informed Practice).  These approaches help families and couples to change negative interactions/dynamics for more positive and healthy ones by exploring emotions, behaviors, roles and boundaries within the family/couple.

We also offer group therapy, which provides support for to build healthy confidence and relationships with themselves and others.

We can offer groups for children/adolescents, adults, seniors, women and parents.

Life is too short to be unhappy and unsatisfied.  Why to continue to struggle with trauma, mental illness,  emotions, relationships and problems?  Give yourself the opportunity to explore different ways to address your problems. Sometimes solutions to difficult problems might be easier to find than you think, if you understand your situation.  Give yourself the opportunity to explore and Learn different ways on how to enjoy  your life, to be present, be free, and to live the life you want to live!

Play-therapy provides children ways to express thoughts and feelings.  We use different Play-therapy approaches such as: *Theraplay (Informed practice) and Dyad Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)/ (Informed Practice) to address attachment issues.

*Directive and Child Centered (non directive) play-therapy to address other behavioral/emotional problems.

Children are in a stage where their used of language is still developing. They are better able to express their thoughts and feelings through actions and play.

According to Virginia Axline, play is the natural medium of self expression.  The idea of using play to observe and get to know people goes back hundreds of years. In ancient Greece the great philosopher Plato said that if you wanted to know a man watch how he plays.

Play-therapy was first used by Freud when he had a 5 year-old client and asked his parents to watch him play.

Play Therapy could be directive or non directive. Directive Play Therapy is when a therapist guides and directs the play using games or activities geared towards resolving a specific issue such as self esteem, attention, anger, trauma, etc.

Non directive Play Therapy allows the child free play and the therapist follows the child's lead.  This form of play allows children to better express their feelings and work on their problems by themselves by tapping on their resilience.

Filial Play-Therapy teaches parents indirective play therapy so they could provide means for their children to work on emotional issues by themselves.

Play-therapy has made the difference between success and failure, understanding and confusion, hope and despair for families.  Play therapy is also an evidence based approach which makes the process of behavioral changes more time efficient.

Children - adolescents might need extra support to develop social, emotional, and cognitive skills.

Are you worried about your child or adolescent:

- being too shy or withdrawn

- being anxious, fearful, or worry about what others think of him/her

- being bullied in school

- getting angry easily, short temper, irritable or grouchy

- figety, impulsive and having difficulties to pay attention/concentrate

- attention seeker like being the clown in the class

- feeling bad about themselves, struggling with guilt, insecurity, and lack of confidence

Children who have difficulties in adjusting in social setting or regulating their emotions develop depression and anxiety later on in life.

According to United Nations publication, Mental Health Matters - Social Inclusion of Youth with Mental Health Conditions (2014), "Mental health conditions which include behavioural and mental health problems e.g. depression, anxiety disorders, disruptive behavioural disorders, (such as attention deficit hyperactivtiy disorder, mood disturbances, substance use, suicidal behaviour, and aggressive - disruptive behaviour) are the leading causes of adjustment problems in adolecents and young people worldwide".

"Mental-health conditions have a significant impact on the development of over a billion youth under social-economic integration, including employabilty".

Children/adolescents who have a mental health condition present difficulties developing and learning social, emotional, and cognitive skills. However children and adolescent's brains are malleable which means their brain can be easily trained and they can learn these skills.

United Nations also states," yet, it is alos critical that attention to global mental health moves beyond treatment - orientated programs in health-care settings to include broader approached inspired by public- health and social dash inclusion considerations".
